Jamie Rodgers Top Tip - Colouring Ribbon | Craftmania Blog

For today's post you will need

A selection of stamps including a floral design and a script stamp

A Stamping Platform OR Block - I will pop some of these in the Shopping List below....

You will also need a selection of alcohol markers, preferably old or inexpensive ones!

And and selection of ribbon.. So I am sure you have already twigged where we are going with today's post lol... we are going to stamp our own vintage ribbon.. Now I can't for one second lie... this is a technique I have been doing now for many, many years... and I can't recall if it is something I have creatively borrowed or come up with on my own... so just in case lets go with the idea its a technique I've borrowed as I don't want to steal someone else's thunder. Style 1 - Double Sided Satin Ribbon So let's kick things off by popping our ribbon on to the stamping platform... now I know my stamp is larger than the width of my ribbon so I have added in a piece of copier paper to save me cleaning my platform...

Once inked with Black Staz On & stamped...

Now to be honest, I actually think this looks lovely on its own... think about creating this effect using different shades of ink/ ribbon... Repeat your stamping until you have covered your ribbon as you wish...

Now for some colour...

Alcohol markers tend to bleed on ribbon as you can see... For this effect I don't mind to be honest, I'm happy with a fused floral vintage feel... but little tips...

1- Dab your pens... don't colour with them.

2- Use older drier pens

3- Try different colours or different brands as some colours (even in the same brand bleed more than others) ****Be aware that Staz On ink bleeds! So it will spread and can contaminate your pen tips!***

Again, this is a good reason to use old pens. I have purposely left half of mine with just the flowers coloured and half also with the additional yellow... the more ink you put on the ribbon the more all of the colours will run.

When I have completed enough of the ribbon in the style I like... I find bringing in a script stamp to add in more vintageness and depth to the image distracts a little from the bleeding.

Style 2 - Sheer Ribbon

Same again... pop it in your platform and randomly stamp the mixed bunch floral stamp as required...

Again this could easily be left as is...

or we can bring in the alcohol markers again and add in some colour...

You will notice due to the weave of the ribbon being more spread out the ink will not bleed as much as it does on the closely woven satin ribbon Once again adding in the lovely script stamp adds a more collective feel to our ribbon...

Style 3 - Satin Ribbon Blobs...

So this time before stamping we are going to take our ribbon and place random blobs of alcohol ink on it - using the broader tip of the marker -

Carry on adding colours and filling in the gaps....

Leave as if for a confetti style ribbon...

Or you guessed it... BRING BACK THE STAMPS...

I hope these fused floral ribbon effects are something you wish to give a try...

I can't wait to see your creations with this style!
