Hello Lovely Crafters....
This week I thought I'd bring you a little inspiration around male themed cards... as these can be a challenge!! This one has a little bit of "NEW" as well as bringing back some of our original favourites products.
Today we will be working with Cosmic Shimmer Pixie Powders as I just love them.
Zoe (our Facebook Group Admin) gave me the inspiration to use them for this project.
What's The Difference Between Pixie Powders - Pixie Sparkles - Pixie Bursts ??
▪️Pixie Powder - A dry mica pearl powder (containing small mica particles) which gives a wonderful explosion of colour and shimmer to porous surfaces.
📝 NOTE - All explode into several colours, except for the following -
Midnight Sky & White Pearl (MIXERS) - these are great for changing your other colours.
Or mix these two together to create grey....
▪️Pixie Sparkles - A dye based powder with large shards mica particles, giving an exceptionally sparkly finish with an explosion of colour (like the original Pixie Powders).
📝 NOTE - In the Pixie Sparkles Collection there are two HIGHLIGHT colours - Molten Gold and Frozen Pearl. These can be added over / into other colours and add a fabulous gold / pearl sparkle.
▪️Pixie Bursts - An intense colour base dye powder without mica which creates a burst of colours on porous surfaces such as card.
OK let's get creating......
Step 1
I took an A4 sheet of Raven Black Elite Card and scored it in half to give an C5 size.
Taking the nesting die set (above 📸), I cut a silver mirror layer using the fourth size die and then a Snow White Pearl Card layer using the fifth size down.
Step 2
Getting creative.... get your creative space ready for the fun (and a little messy) part.
Using my glass craft mat, I took the pearl layer from earlier and sprayed the whole layer with
Jamie Rodgers Crafts BRAND NEW Elite Misters - Night Sky Navy and Seashell Blue
I am a little impatient lol, so I used my heat gun to speed up the drying process....
However, these sprays are so good they dry pretty much immediately.
I then used the Sunbeam Yellow Elite Mister, but this time I unscrewed the lid and just tapped the fluid from the tube inside over the layer to give a cosmic feel (without over doing it) if that makes sense!
Step 3
Next I put some DecoArt White Acrylic Paint on my glass mat and spritzed it with a little water.
I mixed it together with a small paint brush, before loading it with the paint.
Using my finger, I tapped the brush over my cosmic layer, and used my Heat Tool again to dry it.
Once the layer was dry, I used double sided tape and attached my top layer to the silver layer and then onto my black card base.
Step 4
When the planets align :-)
I searched the Internet for some pictures of the planets, so I could pick out my Pixie Powders colours. There are so many stunning Pixie colours.... I had no issues picking out the similar to the planets.
I only wanted to create 5 of Planets, so using the above die set, I cut five different small circles in white card.
✅ TOP TIP
I LOVE my Pixie Powders... so to make life a little easier, I created my own colour chart with the different shades, making it easier to select the correct ones for projects.
Step 5
Cosmic Shimmer Pixie Powders / Bursts / Sparkles are so easy to use....
All you have to do is spray with a little water (these little Woodware Bottles are perfect for this).
The powders react to water and create an explosion of colour. You can dry with a Heat Tool, however I find you get the best effect if you let them 'air dry.'
✅ TIP - Remember, little is more with this technique... you can always add more, but if you add too much you can create 'puddles' and drown the effect of the stunning mica.
Here is my recipes for my 5 Planets.....

Step 6
Before putting my planets onto my card, I cut out my sentiments.....
Cut out the above sentiment "You Brighten My Day" in silver mirror card.
Cut out "Son" sentiment using Creative Expressions Sentiments Collection (see my Shopping List below).
I glued the main sentiment to the centre of my card and then the 'Son' sentiment to Planet Mars.
Next I added all 5 planets to my card - I used glue for two of them, and foam pads for the other three (see photo below 📸). I wanted to create a little dimension....
Finishing my card....
I used a little of the white paint from earlier, to create a little streak on my card to give the effect of a shooting star.
I popped a medium diamond gem for the star and then added random tiny diamond gems for stars.
And there you have it.... a nice cosmic card for all them budding astronauts our there.
You can create some magical backgrounds with your Pixies and the colours are fabulous... especially with the mica content. And the beauty is... you will never create the same results twice, so I have to warn you that they are a little addictive :-)
Well I hope this has inspired you to give this a go and see what you can create.
Thank you so much for your support, and checking out my blog post.
