Design Team - Jamie Rodgers Crafts Collection - The Tile Lantern By Lynn Lewis

Hello all.....

I hope you’ve all had a great crafting week.....

Today I'm bringing you a little construction project - The Lantern Box - using Jamie Rodgers Crafts brand new Nested Tile Die Set from his latest Tiles Collection!

Now trust me when I say... it’s very easy to make and it’s a great gift box as well as a lantern.

Step 1

Taking the Plain Rectangles Die Set, cut out four pieces of Night Sky Navy Elite Card

📝 NOTE - You need the one that measures approximately 6⅛ x 4⅛ inches

Next take the Elegant Butterfly Oval and using the lattice tile in the centre, place this in the middle of the rectangles that you’ve just done. Cut the tile into it as seen in Picture 1 📸.

Now, using the same die set, cut out 20 silver mirror corner pieces (as seen 📸)

Then cut out the Nested Tile frames in silver mirror card four times using the two largest dies

📝 NOTE - Save the middle sections from these

Then, as seen in Picture 1 📸 stick all these elements onto each panel, saving four corner pieces for the lid!

Step 2

Cut four strips of Night Sky Navy Elite Card measuring 6⅛ inches x 1 inch.

Score down the middle of each, and as you can see in Picture 2 📸 adhere all the panels onto the strip up to the score lines, but leave the last side open

Step 3

Make a base with the same card measuring  5⅛ x 5⅛ inches.

📝 NOTE - Just under and score half an inch all the way round, and make up as you can see in Picture 3 📸.

Stick the side panels around it, closing up the final piece as you finish!

Step 4

Make another box style piece for the lid, however this time, cut it to 5 & 1/16” x 5 & 1/16” and score half an inch all the way round.

Next, take the tiles which came from the centre of the silver mirror card frames earlier.

Cut two in half and score across the bottom of each about ¼ inch.

Then stick together, but fold the score line up (as seen in Picture 4 📸) and stick this onto the centre of the lid.

Now cut a scallop edge and pierced square (from the above set) out of the same card.

📝 NOTE - It’s the one that will just go over the edges of the box, but covers the lid.

Apologises, I forgot to measure this piece.

You will need to cut a slit 3¼ inches across the centre (for the mirror tile to come through on top to make it neater).  So pull that carefully through the scallop square before sticking it to the box lid as well.

Step 5

Now.... finish by sticking on the four corners that were left earlier.

Here, as seen in Picture 5 📸 I cut some silver mirror ½ inch strips to go around the inside top edge, which I then glued to reinforce it.

That is the structure of the lantern made......

Now for the fun and final touches.....

I added a little battery night light in mine, to create that wonderful warm glow; such a beautiful effect!

If you wanted to make yours a little more ornate, you could add some flowers /gems /jewels, or whatever you wish. Let your creativity run wild :-)

Perfect for so many occasions and it would look amazing in different colours too!

Hope you will have a go at making this......

Have a great week

Take care

Lynn x
