Hello Crafters....
As a Design Team we are looking at ways in which we can help you get the best out of your products.
NEW - GUIDE TO CRAFTING BLOGS
Today we bring you one of our first Guide To Crafting Blogs....
The aim of these is to share our knowledge of top tips, tricks and techniques of how to use both products and tools to achieve the best results - whether you are a complete beginner or having been crafting for years :-)
With the launch of Jamie Rodgers Crafts NEW Elite Misters, I thought this would be a great place to kick us off!!
For some great demos and inspiration, check out Jamie's new YouTube video showing you some great ways to use your misters - including stamping, stencilling and more... watch on the link below.
Now, I don't class myself as an expert.... but one thing you may know about me is my LOVE FOR INKS...
So let’s begin with how you prepare to use your Misters....
Firstly, don’t be afraid of a spray or mister lol, you can make some lovely pieces using them.
All you need is to prep your area before getting creative!
Work Surface & Preparation
You can buy special spray boxes, some people use cardboard boxes or even a washing up bowl.
You can even go outside if it’s dry (and not windy).
I personally, have tried some of these ideas, however I prefer to work in an open space where I can see what I'm doing properly rather than being confined to a box!
To protect the surrounding area of my desk, I cut open a large plastic bin bag and lay is over my bench and cover everything I don't want ink to reach (see photo below 📸)
(If you’re anything like me, you only have a small place to work so this helps :-)
I place my Glass Craft Mat on top.
You might also want to wear gloves.... I don’t - however when I wash the dishes it soon goes lol!
Doing it this way saves time in having to move everything, plus there’s more area to pick up ink left on the mat. Chances are, once you getting creating, you'll get carried away and want to do lots in one go :-)
MISTING WITH YOUR INKS
I find the best position for misting is standing up and working from a height - well not too high or it will never hit the card lol.
I like to mix two colours together - for example Gladiator Red and Sunbeam Yellow.
✅ TOP TIP
Now the trick here is not to spray too hard, otherwise it will become very wet ... less is more as you can always add to it.
However, if you are a little heavy handed, don't worry as it will still be useable when dry - just sweep your spray across as you do it so it’s not all in one place .
DO NOT try to mix too many colours at once, as it tends to go muddy!
TECHNIQUES WITH A GLASS MAT
Another simple way to start using your misters, is to spray your glass and then spray again with some water.
Lay your piece of card onto your inky mat to pick up the ink and give it a quick dry with a Heat Tool and then lay it on again to pick up the rest to change the colour in places.
✅ TIP - You can also swoosh your card around the mat to add different colours.
If you want to add a different effect and interest, try tapping out some droplets from the spray pipe onto the mat, and then lay your card onto it. You can do this with more than one colour if you wish!
Alternatively, place a stencil on top and lightly mist in the same colour.
SPRAYING ONTO CARD
Another technique is to spray directly onto your card.
✅ TIP
Don’t hold the spray too close otherwise you will just get a load of droplets and pools like I've demonstrated here. However, droplets might be the exact effect you want to achieve!
Always pick up ink left on the mat with clean card... don’t waste it because it can be lovely for other projects or backgrounds.
I find spraying water on the leftovers helps it to pick up.
You can mist them on to a Gelli Plate... that’s always interesting.
And...why not try this one - mist over some bubble wrap with a couple of colours then press your card onto it.
IDEAS WHICH GO BEYOND CARD....
As Jamie mentioned on his TV Launch Shows you can also :-
▪️Spray your MDF tags, kits and plaques with misters
▪️Stamp with the Elite Mister Dye Ink
▪️Add the Elite Misters' Ink to the glitter texture pastes to make it two tone - I need to try these :))
▪️Also add to clear texture paste to create your own coloured paste.
The options are endless.....
WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR "MISTED" CREATIONS....
Well you can stencil on them with a similar shade of ink - this is great fun (see photos below 📸)
📝 NOTE - All Jamie Rodgers Crafts products have been designed to compliment and co-ordinate with each other, so as you can see below, the Quick Dry Ink Pads work perfectly.
✅ TIP - Don't forget to pick up the ink you’ve sprayed on the stencil with another piece of card. This makes a good print too!!
You can use the Gemstones Glitter Texture Pastes on top.
Either way they now have an interesting background instead of white card and if there’s a patch you don’t like, just cover it with something like a hot air balloon or whatever you are using on your card.
You can emboss them with your stencils and then rub an ink pad over in the same colour - it's a great look (see below 📸).

I’ve created a background with the Elite Mister in Seashell Blue and then used the
Floating Bubbles Stencil and lightly misted with Night Sky Navy, before embossing it with the
Floral Delight Stencil and finally wiped over with my Blue Emperor Quick Dry Dye Ink Pad
▪️Stamp some script on them for a background...
I find flattening them in the die cutting machine helps for stamping on them.
▪️Stamp out flowers to fussy cut out
▪️Die cut from it
▪️Paint with it and use to colour in images
▪️ As you can see, the leaves I’ve stamped in the headline picture - these are used on the MDF piece seen on Jamie's TV Show.
The magic of Jamie's products, like I mentioned, is that you can fully coordinate a colour scheme with the Misters - Ink Pads - Gemstone Glitter Texture Pastes and Elite Card.
So with all these ideas... before you know it, you have a pile of interesting card ready make lots of amazing projects!
Remember there are no mistakes in crafting - it’s all a learning curve and I just like to experiment :-)
The main thing is to have fun and remember if you like clean hands wear gloves....

Thanks for all the tips on how and where to spray. It was very helpful
Thank you, Lynn. This was very helpful, particularly covering the area with plastic! I love playing around with misters and other goodies, but, as I do have a small place to work, I have to clear the area first. I usually try to make a lot of different backgrounds at one time, so your inspiration will give me some things to try next time.
Great ideas and we'll explained lynn
I found this very helpful thank you 😊
