I've been bursting to share this blog with you, ever since I've got my hands on the incredible Kaleidoscope Die Set (otherwise known as the 'Pizza Die" here with us).
Trust me it really is a cut above the rest... a die set that is value for money ten times over, and soooo much fun!!
Step 1
Creating our Gilding Flakes base....
▪️Take an A4 Adhesive Sheet and stick it onto a piece of Polar White Elite Card.
Now there are two ways of doing the next step, so I'll explain both options (really simple, yet can make a difference on the finished look).
Option 1
Put all of your Gilding Flakes onto your sticky sheet and then do your die cutting from the gilded sheets.
Option 2 - (My Way)
I like to place my flakes so that I have different colours on the segments rather than mixed up into little pieces.
Place your segment onto the magnetic cutting plate (as seen below 📸)
Take a piece of wax paper and place it on top (with the wax side facing the die), then your piece of white card with the adhesive sheet on and the cutting plate then pass through your machine.
You can see in Picture 1 📸 the bits have come out fairly easily with the help of the wax paper.
📝 NOTE - There are some bits that do get stuck in the die because of the adhesive sheet, however you’ll get that either way you do it. They come away easily with a pokey tool!
✅ TOP TIP - I keep this spare (and cheap) Pokey Tool to use with sticky / mixed media projects like this, rather than use the one I use for special projects... if that makes sense!
✅ TOP TIP - I tend to dust my anti static pad onto the die to help prevent this and
You can place this same piece of wax paper in the die each time.
Step 2
▪️Take a tray and tip out some Gilding Flakes (preferably one that has a mix of colours.
▪️Take a piece of the backing from the adhesive sheet you had earlier; place your segment in there and take off the cover.
▪️Place your larger piece on the bottom, so you can keep hold of your segment without your fingers sticking into it.
▪️Now place Gilding Flakes onto this segment (as seen in Picture 2 📸) and using a
Sponge Applicator gently burnish them onto your die cut.
📝 NOTE - You can see the difference between the one where I have laid the flakes on and the one just below that I cut out where I put them all on a sheet.. and it adds those rusty looks to it .
Continue to do this until all the segments are covered and also cut out the cog corners and do these as well.
✅ TOP TIP - These special Sponge Applicators are not like 'any old sponge' before you go rushing to your kitchen cupboard.
They will not stick to your adhesives surfaces, and are the perfect density; designed to work with Gilding Flakes.
Step 3
Now focusing on your 'cogs segment'......
▪️On the backs of your cog segment, stick Pebble Grey segments - cut with the plain segment dies from the set.
▪️Cover another piece of card with an adhesive sheet
▪️Cut out the 'scalloped edged circle' from the die set, and cover this with Gilding Flakes
(as seen in Picture 3 📸)
▪️Next step....take the Kaleidoscope Segments Stencil and put it on your gilded circle.
▪️Run it through your machine with a rubber mat to make the impressions of the segments (you will have seen Jamie do this technique on his TV Shows).
▪️You can now place them equally onto the circle....
Step 4
Make a sentiment.....
▪️I used the "Happy Birthday" die set
As the name suggests... I have layered up using Pebble Grey Elite Card and Gilding Flakes that was left over from the circle. Adhere these together..
▪️At this point, I stuck the circle and segments onto the above card blank.
(As us crafters know, things don't always go to plan.. so this was 'Plan B' lol... I cut round the corners
(as seen in Picture 4 📸).
Picture 3 📸 now measures 18½ cm x 18½ cm
▪️I then matted it onto some Raven Black Elite Card which was cut using the above nesting die set - measuring 19½ cm x 19½ cm.
▪️This was then stuck onto another 8x8 Pebble Grey card blank.
📝 NOTE - I didn’t waste the back off the one I cut off, as it will be used for something else
Step 5
To finish.....
▪️I stamped out two hot air balloons from the Floral Lace Collection onto Raven Black Elite Card.
▪️I stamped with a VersaMark Ink Pad, before heat embossing them with gold embossing powder.
▪️I then fussy cut them out, and stuck them onto the card (as seen above 📸) using foam pads.
The greeting was placed on top of the bottom balloon.
✅ TOP TIP - Don't forget to use your Magic Anti-Static Pad first
This card would make a great men's themed card, or a twist on a vintage style.
There are lots of options for your own creative ideas on it, but in any case it is very eye catching, especially with the Gilding Flakes.
Go on and give it a go... we'd love you to share with us on our Facebook Group - Create With Craftmania And Jamie Rodgers.
Happy Crafting
Take care
