DT - Lynn Lewis - Floral Melody

Our very first post by Lynn Lewis! (The first member to our brand new Craftmania Design Team) Please give her a warm welcome!

When I received the ‘March Handpicked by Jamie’ bundle I was excited to see there was a Mother’s Day greeting in among the Creative Expressions stamp set, so I just had to make the Mumsy card first as it’s coming up at the end of this month and it’s always good to get ahead so you’re not dashing about at the last minute . I started with a white 8x8 card blank then layered the lovely shabby green plain side from Phill Martin’s gorgeous Blossom paper collection pad, slightly trimmed to fit the card. The Columns were then added, now I measured these at 5cm x 17cm for the plain pink paper then 16cm x 4cm for the floral pink that is the other side of the plain sheet . These were stuck together flat then put on the card with foam pads but you can place on flat if you prefer. Two strips were then added on foam pads to make a bar across the columns, green measuring 20cm x 2.5cm and Pink 20cm x 1.8cm. I tend to add things by eye but my eye is not always straight lol. I then cut out two of the St Lucia die set, one in the plain Green from the pad and one in white card, I used the the outer spikey edge pieces and shadow laid them on top of each other so it looked fuller (hopefully you can see that on the close up) then attached it to the card with small foam pads and glue. The lovely Spiral Pearl flower dies by Sue Wilson were cut out with plain white card and there's a small line cut out between each petal that I snipped into so I could shape the flowers further (I don’t know why I didn’t own this die before, it’s quite lovely ). After shaping and sticking together I rubbed the distress ink pad ‘Kitsch Flamingo’ over the edges and stuck a Pearl in the centres and glued them randomly into the frame. They remind me of white cherry blossom. I used the white card leaves I cut out from the same die set and coloured them with the distress ink pad ‘Shabby Shutters’ and stuck them into the frame too .

The greeting is made up from ‘St Lucia’ die set by using the plain centre and the patterned centre, I coloured the plain one with the ‘Shabby Shutters’ ink and stamped the Mother’s Day sentiment in the middle with black Archival ink, then from the patterned centre I cut out the oval piece and a bit more to frame the greeting if that makes sense. Then slightly domed the greeting and stuck the side edges down. I finished with just 4 pearls in each corner because I felt it needed a little something more . I tried to make this card without adding too much to the bundle so if you wanted to make this card you can get started straight away, you could also adjust the sizes for a smaller card or larger if you prefer. All Inks, Pearls and foam pads can be purchased at Craftmania . I hope you like it. Lynn
