Hello Lovely Crafters....
Today we are going to be making a Birthday card using our Paper Tree Pad - 'A Touch Of Romance,' Sue Wilson’s Herringbone Background Die, Frames & Tags Birthday Party Die Set and for that extra sparkle... the pink mesh gem sheet!!
As always, you can find the products used to create my project at the bottom of this page.
To begin with, cut out your Birthday Party (inner die) twice in white card, along with your sentiment.
Then cut the outer backing piece in Gold Mirror Card, and another of the 'Birthday' sentiment in Silver Mirror Card.
Whilst our die cutting machine is out, cut out your Herrringbone Background die twice in white card.
Now create two frames using your Noble Double Stitched Rectangle Dies - one frame to fit your 'Herringbone' element, and the other to fit the back. See my photos above.
COLOURING OUR BIRTHDAY PARTY DIE
Lay your die cut onto a piece of copy paper, and using a VersaMark Ink Pad, press it all over the die cut. Dispose of the used copy paper and replace it with a clean sheet.
TOP TIP - For this next step, the best way I find to do this is take a small plastic spoon - carefully cover the bits you want with the colour of embossing powders you choose. Tip off between colours.
Here I will be using a VersaMark Double Ended Pen, along with my chosen Cosmic Shimmer Embossing Powders :-
Brilliant Sparkle Silver Tinsel
Brilliant Sparkle Vivid Violet
Brilliant Sparkle Forest
Brilliant Sparkle Denim
Brilliant Sparkle Ruby
Brilliant Sparkle Pharaoh Gold
Cosmic Shimmer Detail Black
Once you have sprinkled your powders where you want them, shake off the excess and heat emboss.
Don’t worry if some of the colours have wandered off onto another; this is where our VersaMark Pen comes in. While it is cool to use your pen to correct bits, I tend to do one colour powder at a time here with the thick nib, heating after each colour.
When you’re happy, take the pen and this time using the fine tip end, go over the bunting letters and Cover with your Cosmic Shimmer Black Detail Embossing Powder and then heat emboss.
Next, take your two pieces Herringbone die cuts, and stick them together so that they cross over instead of matching - see my photos. Trim closely around the edge and then stick your Birthday Party embossed piece on the front. I popped something heavy on it to help it stick down flat.
Now take your gold mirror backing element and stick this behind the 'birthday party' and 'herringbone' pieces. Behind these, stick on the double stitched rectangle (from earlier) on with pads.
On the front of this, stick the double stitched rectangle frame.
CREATE YOUR CARD BASE
Take a sheet of white A4 card and simply fold it in half, and crease using a Bone Folder Tool.
For the next part, I chose papers so that they emulated the Herringbone panel.
Follow the pictures I've included above to help you...
You need a piece of white card measuring - 8 x 5.5 inches
Then cut four lots of two inch strips from striped papers. Here I cut mine at an angle so two were one way, and the opposite for the other two.
Now stick those on the white card (as seen in my picture) and trim off the edges.
Take your gem mesh, and cut strips from it. Stick these along the edges of this panel and then glue the whole thing onto your card base. Stick your 'Birthday Party' panel onto it.
To finish, take your white Birthday die cut sentiment (from earlier) and colour it purple.
I used a pen, but there are lots of options including glitter pens or card or maybe even a Cosmic Shimmer Opal Blaze Polish??
Glue the silver sentiment on top so it creates a shadow, and then stick adhere to the card centre.
Next take the other white 'Birthday Party' die cut cut and snip off the bunting, before sticking to the bottom panel. That is your card finished!!!!
Embossing Powders are fantastic for adding colour and texture to projects, and the VersaMark Pen is invaluable for correcting mistakes when heat embossing. It's also great for embossing your own handwriting... perfect for Christmas and personalised cards and gifts. I’m never without one lol.
Enjoy your weekend and have fun
