Hand Picked By Jamie ~ September Bundle - Deck The Halls By Lynn Lewis

Deck The Halls By Lynn Lewis - Jamie Rodgers Blog | Craftmania

Happy Saturday!

Well I can honestly say it’s been a bit too nippy here for my liking, since I last blogged...

I liked to be eased in with a warm autumn first, don't you?

So like Ian’s gorgeous card this week, I am also loving the Baubles theme which will feature in my card too, but with a little twist.

Let's create some sparkle and add some pizzazz with this creation shall we....

I hope you like glitter, because there’s plenty of it lol; I’m going out with a Sparkle for my last Blog of September.

As you will now know if you follow our Blog posts, you can find the Shopping List to recreate my card at the bottom of this page.

First of all, you will need your Creative Expressions Stitched Baubles Stamp Set from your Bundle. Your first task is to stamp and emboss the baubles, which I did using my VersaMark Ink Pad and then heat embossed with Cosmic Shimmer Detail Gold Embossing Powder. Once this is done, cut them out - as you can see in the photo below.

  • TOP TIP - As best practise and for speed, I like to create in batches and therefore I stamped out the whole sheet of stamps five times. This gave five stamps of each bauble; some left to make the card and then some spare, just in case I of any slip ups (which I did lol).

Now if you haven't guessed already..... we are looking to add that magical sparkle.

Here you are going to start with the poinsettias, using a Quickie Glue Pen and Cosmic Shimmer Glitterbitz to add your colour and sparkle. I have chosen :-

  • Cosmic Shimmer Glitterbitz - Ruby Slippers

  • Cosmic Shimmer Glitterbitz - Silver Chrome

  • Cosmic Shimmer Glitterbitz - Sahara Gold

  • Cosmic Shimmer Glitterbitz - Hunter Green

You can choose your own colours as you wish.

Cosmic Shimmer Glitterbitz come in two options including Holographic, and unlike your normal glitter, Glitterbitz contain a mix of different size particles. They are available in 32 amazing colours.

Once these are done, I coloured the vine stems with a green glitter pen.

At this stage, I stuck my pearls in the poinsettia centres. (Do not attempt to do the white glitter until last, as the colours will totally ruin it, especially if you haven’t totally covered places…..as I found out.

Now, using my Cosmic Shimmer Dries Clear Glue, I made a stitched band for around the edges to

cover and add a finish. You can do this with your choice of glitter and then allow to dry.

Next, I needed to assemble the baubles....

To do this, you need to gently fold each in half lengthways, without creasing it.

On the first one, cover just half in glue and then stick half to another one. Now cover those two halves showing with glue, and stick the one that is left to that.

I've included a photo below to illustrate, and how I've also used my Woodware Mini Pegs to help.

Try not to stick the top and bottom hole up, as we need those for later.

When they are dry, remove the pegs.

Now you may find that you have edges which are still bare (card which hasn't got glitter on).

For these areas, take your glue and run it over the exposed edges, and then apply your glitter.

  • TOP TIP - I usually pour my glitter in a plastic tub with the same colour. Repeat this with each bauble and allow to dry again.

Give them all a really good tap to get rid of any excess loose glitter.

For the next step, I am going to take my Quickie Glue Pen again and go around all the embossed edges of the bauble, and any other areas which need filling and tidying up.

Once I had done all of them, I started to fill in gently with Cosmic Shimmer Glue in a Woodware Ultra Fine Tip Glue Applicator (perfect for small details).

As you do each side, pour on Cosmic Shimmer Frosted Sparkle Glitterbitz.

Tap off your excess, and then add some Cosmic Shimmer Diamond Snow Glitter Jewels on top, to cover any parts that have been missed! Now pop these, along with the single ones aside to dry.

Now me being me here, as I just couldn’t leave them at....

I then went in search of some dangly bits (for the posh term) which I found in the way of beads in my stash. So with my Hot Glue Gun, I placed glue in the bottom hole of the bauble and then stuck the beads in the glue. This is optional, but I felt it gave it that extra detail and finish which I personally like.

We are nearly there....

Next, I got some matching coloured 'thinnish' ribbon and tied loops.

Here I applied my glue to the hole at the top and gently push the knot through and that should be your baubles finished. (You can either use your hot glue or Cosmic Shimmer Glue and with hot glue for this).

This was the best way I could display my creation without delving into the attic to try and find my Christmas stuff!!

Hopefully you can spend a little more time and be creative with yours, which I would love to see!

Now if you are still with me, we are going to make a matching card :-)

Take three of your spare decorated baubles and attach some ribbon behind them with tape or glue.

Then you will need a sheet of Craftmania's Tailored Pinstripe Card which you are going to emboss using Sue Wilson's Diamond Droplets Embossing Folder.

Once embossed, cut your card to size so it will fit onto a Slimline / DL Card Blank. See my photo below for a size guide. (Do not stick it down just yet).

Now, using your Quickie Glue Pen, randomly apply to some of the embossed diamonds.

Place it in the bag of left over Cosmic Shimmer Chocolate Gold Gilding Flakes (as seen in my previous Blog Post - September Week 2). When the glue is ready, cover your diamonds in flakes.

Now take your baubles - the first one can be stuck flat to your card. The second (red lined bauble) I've added Foam Pads to give it some dimension.

Stick the ribbons behind the embossed piece, then with foam pads stick this to your card blank .

Now you will see it all come together....

As I had stamped out all the stamps on the set, I cut out the poinsettias and glittered them up, plus the solid embossed ones with a couple of the stars, and placed these all on the card as you can see with pearls in the middle.

My sentiment from the same set was just snipped apart and stuck as seen.

If you want to take it to the next level and create a gift box, then you can - adding a flat bauble to the top of your box, and add some tissue paper.

Create A Box

  • Base - 29.5cm x 29.5cm scored at 5.5cm all round

  • Lid - 30.5cm x 30.5cm scored at 5.5cm all round

I hope you have enjoyed all this sparkle today.....
