Hello Crafters....
How are we all doing?
Hope we you've had a good week so far...
There has definitely been a shift in the weather, as it's starting to cool down. However, I love this time of year as it gives fresh inspiration for my crafting; starting to think about those autumnal colours :-)
It's been a busy week for me.... and as I call it, I've had "crafters block' - yes we all get it from time to time lol. However, having the new September Hand Picked By Jamie Kit has helped, and been for inspiring your creative thinking!!
So this week, I've stepped outside my comfort zone to bring you a 'Shaker Card.'
These may look a little scary if you've not attempted one before, but trust me, they are easier than you think and give a real wow factor to your cards. So let's give it a go....
As always, the Shopping List for this card can be found at the bottom of the page.
(Now, you may notice as we are working through the tutorial, that I mention two new types of card which are "coming soon." These are "Rich Red" and "Silk Cream Card." A little teaser I know (sorry) lol, but you heard it here first, so keep your eye on Craftmania as they are just AMAZING to work with.
So without further ado, let's get started...
To begin with, you will need a 7x7 card blank for your base and using a silk cream card (of your choice). Emboss your card using Sue Wilson's 3D Diamond Droplets Embossing Folder.
Once embossed, cut this down to 14.5cm square and mount onto your Satin Linen Gold Card.
Then cut out, leaving a 0.5cm border.
Repeat this process again with a sheet of rich red card and give a 0.5cm border.
Now you have your card base done, let's work on the shaker element.
You will need :-
Sue Wilson's Poinsettia Flower Square
Deep red card
Silk finish cream card
Get your Creative Expressions Poinsettia Flower Square Die Set, and cut out using the cream card and then pop this aside.
Now, using just the outer part of that die set, cut a deep red square which will go behind your cream poinsettia.
Next, you need to create the window for your shaker element, so again using the outer square of the die set, cut the acetate.
For the next step, using the 3mm Red Tape, stick the acetate square to the back of the poinsettia panel and lay face down for next part.
Now, you will need your Silicone Foam Tape.
Put this around the edge of the Poinsettia Square and ensure you don't leave any gaps.
This is crucial, as you don't want any of your "shaker" bits to escape so take your time with this :-)
TOP TIP - Use your Woodware Magic Anti-Static Pad on the inside of the window to prevent anything sticking to the acetate.
This is where you can get creative... the content of your shaker is entirely up to you :-)
Just to give you a couple of ideas, you could use :-
Cosmic Shimmer Holographic Glitterbitz
Cosmic Shimmer Glitter Jewels (eg. Iced Snow)
Creative Expressions Micro Beads
Anything you wish to use, as long as it don't sit higher than your Silicone Foam Tape
TIP : If your elements are slightly higher, you can add another layer of the foam tape.
Carefully remove the backing from the Silicone Foam Tape, and then lay the red square we cut out earlier face down onto the Poinsettia Square. Gently seal all the way round.
Glue the square onto Silk Linen Gold Card and cut a small border around it.
You now have your shaker element complete!
Stick your shaker square to the bottom left of the card (as shown in the picture).
Now we are ready for the finishing touches....
Add a sentiment. Cut out Sue Wilson's Mini Expressions - We Wish a you a Merry Christmas Die from the deep red card and glue to the top right of the card.
From Sue Wilson's Festive Foliage Pieces Die Set, take three fir tree dies and cut from the Green Metallic Card, and then add these to the top left corner.
The last thing to add is your pearl beads which go in the bottom right corner - and you are done!
I hope you like my card... thank you all for your lovely comments. They are very much appreciated.
If you have been inspired by this make, and decide to have a go at your own design, we would love you to share it with us on our Facebook Group - Create With Craftmania And Jamie Rodgers.
Have a fantastic week fellow crafters and I'll look forward to seeing you this time next week!!
Take care
Ian x
