Jamie Rodgers Crafts Festive Collection ~ A Christmas Eve Plaque By Ian Rump-Smith

Hey Crafters....

After some lovely feedback last week on my Christmas Eve card / blog, I thought I'd have some fun and show you how you can recreate your designs onto Jamie Rodgers Crafts NEW MDF Collection!

A nice and simple mix of mixed media, using dies and stencils whichmake beautiful keepsakes, or something you can give away with your birthday / Christmas gifts.

OR .... Maybe even add a child's name on it for them to hang up on the Christmas tree??

Ok let's get started.....

Step One

I have chosen the largest plaque from the set above.

Taking Jamie Rodgers Crafts Clear Drying Glue and a paint brush, I covered one side of the board and then laid it flat on top of a sheet of Night Sky Navy Elite Card.

I smoothed it out so there were no bubbles and set aside to dry.

Step Two

Whilst waiting for it to dry, I cut out my flowers (Classic Poinsettias) using white Vellum.

As this gives you two different style flowers, I ran it through my machine twice. See photo below 📸

I decided not to use the centre pieces in my project, so saved them to use another time!

TIP - Did you know you can colour your white Vellum to any colour you want?

Here I used my Distress Oxide Inks - I will be making loads of different flowers now lol.

I used a blending brush and two Distress Oxides - Weathered Wood and Pumice Stone.

Both similar shades; one is a little lighter than the other to give depth and distinction.

I then used my embossing mat and a very thin embossing tool to add creases down my leaves,

so I could add some dimension.

I then glued my layers together and added silver pearls in the centres. Set these aside.

Step Three

Using a craft knife, I cut around my MDF board.

This is the first time I've worked with Jamie's NEW MDF and I must say it's a beautiful quality and gives a great clean cut.

I used a pokey tool to push through the two hanging holes.

Next I took the Snow Flurry Stencil and put it on top of my MDF circle, and secured it with the magnets on my Make Art Board.

📝 NOTE - If you haven't got magnets, you could use low tack tape or stencil tape

Using a palette knife and Cosmic Shimmer's Glow in the Dark Texture Paste, I covered all that was covering my board, across the stencil.

After carefully removing the stencil, I washed it in warm water and set my board aside to dry.

📝 NOTE: You can use and other texture paste and white works well as not so translucent as the one I used.

Step Four

Next I cut the Christmas Scene Die Set in silver mirror card.

As it doesn't cut it out completely (which is intended) you will need to snip it out this some scissors.

TIP - Tweezer / precision scissors are perfect for this

I then continued to cut out Father Christmas sleigh in matt silver card.

🛒 The colours in Dovecraft's Smooth Metallic card, which I've popped in the Shopping List below, are divine!

Next, cut out some of the spruce branches from the Festive Foliage Die Set.

Finally, I used the Merry Christmas Circle Sentiment Die, to which I cut out the centre piece in silver mirror card. I gently snipped the sentiment away from its edges.

Now these will be ready to use once I've finished decorating my plaque.

Step Five

To add that special bit of colour and finish to my plaque, I added some Cosmic Shimmer Silver Dream Metallic Gilding Polish around the outside edge. I applied it using my finger, so I didn't over smudge.

Once finished I used a piece of kitchen roll to wipe off any excess polish.

I threaded some of the above ribbon to the top of my plaque and tied knots, before trimming the edges.

Step Six

Taking the die cuts from earlier......

▪️First the trees

To make them go around the circular bottom, I cut the pieces into four pieces.

I applied to the plaque using red liner tape as it needed to be permanent and support when bending.

I gently trimmed any excess hanging over the edge.

▪️The flowers and foliage

For these I used Silicone Glue - move around before gluing to ensure you are happy where they are placed.

▪️ Santa and his sleigh

For this I used Jamie's Clear Drying (wet) glue. Perfect for wiggling around and then sets clear.

That's it all finished! How easy was that!

I think I may get a little addicted to these, as they are quick, easy and a great alternative to cards.
