Spellbinders Design Team ~ Fluttering Shutters By Lynn Lewis

Spellbinders Design Team ~ Fluttering Shutters By Lynn Lewis | Craftmania Blog

Hello lovely Crafters....

Today I am bringing you this fantastic Butterfly Bliss Garden Shutters Die Set from Spellbinder, along with a set I've previously used - the Eyelet Lace Frame Die Set because it fits this perfectly :-)

I have always struggled to make one of these in the past, but now I have this die set to do it - so hang on to your scissors and let’s get started :-)

Step 1

To save a lot of reading and before we get going, watch this video 🎥 Spellbinders Shutter Cards Explained

Step 2

▪️For this card, I've used Cream and White Maya Card, plus Periwinkle in Foundations Card.

I've cut out one frame in white, and one in cream.

▪️Taking the Eyelet Lace Frame Die Set, I cut out just the outer frame in Periwinkle.

▪️For the shutters, I cut the backgrounds in cream and the filigree pattern panels in Periwinkle.

▪️I cut out the solid butterflies in Silver Mirror Card, and then the rest in the cream and blue.

For the backs of the shutters, I cut out the panels in cream.

▪️The pull bar at the top is optional; it allows you to pull the card up as you can see in my video.

✅ However, if you want to stick the two pieces together and stick it just behind the top of the front piece, be careful not to get blue on the surroundings.

Step 3

✅ Hopefully you've now watched the video above and cut out your mechanism for the shutters on a piece of 5x7 card. It is super easy to do!!

In hindsight, I think choosing a contrasting colour for this might be better than white in some circumstances.

▪️Fold all your bits as shown in the video, and stick your white frame onto the back.

and then take the cream one and adhere it onto the front,

🚨Make sure the shutters are not stuck to anything.

Now stick the eyelet die cut on top.

Step 4

Stick your shutter pieces together and glue them onto the shutters, along with the cream bits on the backs.

Step 5

These shutters fit a 7x5 card blank perfectly :-)

▪️So take the rectangle piece that came out of the centre of the 'periwinkle eyelet lace frame' piece and stick this into the centre of the card.

✅ I think it makes it look better when open .

Then stick your shutter frame onto the card..

Build your butterflies how you wish and adhere these onto the shutter panels.

Step 6

To finish....

▪️Cut your sentiment "Happy Anniversary" from Jamie Rodgers Sentiment Collection and "With Love" in Silver Mirror Card and stick these on the backs of the shutters, making sure they will be the correct way when it’s pulled round.

TIP - The front of the card is now quite heavy, so balance it up with some layers on the inside back to match the front.

I found this quite easy to make, as it’s just a matter of cutting out all of the pieces and putting them together :-)

For more inspiration, I’ve created this one which is almost identical, only that I used lilac, white and purple Maya card. Here I've added a couple of small flowers to the front and used the sentiment that came with this set.

And you will see I didn’t add the pull tab.

Finished with a little white bow from the new ribbon selection at Craftmania.
