Design Team ~ Vintage Valentine By Ian Rump-Smith

Updated: Jan 18

Hello Everyone....

Thanks for joining me again in my Blog for this week.... and what a challenge I have for you!!

So with Cosmic Shimmer products on offer until the end of January, I thought I would raid my stash and show you a variety!

Step 1

I started with an 8x8 white card base

Using my Double Stitched Square Nesting Dies, I cut a mat and layer from bronze card, along with another mat using Dovecraft's Lilac shade card.

Before adding to my card base, I then added a ribbon border with 2 pieces - Gold Stripe Lurax and sage green.

I put the two ribbons together and secured at the back of the mat with Ultra Sticky Red Liner Tape as this is super strong.

Now again using my doubled sided tape, I stuck the front panel to my card base.

Taking both ribbons created a bow with my bow maker and then set aside.

Step 2

Let make some flowers for later.

I used two Creative Expressions die sets for my flowers.....

After cutting these out I coloured them with Cosmic Shimmer Mica Pigment Powders.

  • Decadent Wine

  • Decadent Grape

  • Frosted Blossom

  • Vintage Sage

  • Vintage Golden Green

  • Gunmetal

  • Chic Pumpkin

I used Finger Daubers to apply the mica (or you could also try a cotton bud).

Try experimenting by adding a light colour and then a darker tone to the flower tips.

Then using my Embossing Tool and Shaping Pal Mat, I shaped my flowers to add a little dimension.

I glued my flowers together and then set them aside for later.

Step 3

Next I used a sheet of Dovecraft Kraft card and it into cut a 6"x6" square.

I then used the Creative Expressions Jamie Rodgers Love Letter Stencil on the card

TIP - The Gunmetal Mica Powder was ideal to use with this

🌟 RECOMMENDATION - My Make Art Station board was ideal to do this project, as the magnets are so strong and you don't need to use masking tape.

Next I used Creative Expressions Botanical Swirl 3D Embossing Folder.

This is smaller than the square but makes no difference.

I rubbed a little Cosmic Shimmer Rose Gold Gliding Polish lightly over the raised pattern which is beautiful.

Step 4

Using the extra piece of Kraft card, I thought I would get messy and make some vintage paper :-)

For this I used Cosmic Shimmer Botanical Stains by Sam Poole

▪️Grape

▪️Carrot Top Green

▪️Italian Plum

Using my glass mat, I used one colour at a time and dropped some colour on to it.

Next I dabbed the card randomly and then dried with my heat gun.

I repeated this process with the other 2 colours.

I used my Deckled Edges Ruler on three of the sides (this will come apparent soon).

TIP - If your edges are too light from the tear you can use some Oxide Gathered Twigs to darken. This is how it ended up, a little wrinkled but that added to the vintage look.

Step 5

I made up a little potion for the next part...

I took some Cosmic Shimmer Glow in the Dark Texture Paste and added some Cosmic Shimmer Gold Embossing Powder.

Using a pallet knife, I mixed up my combination ready.

Using my Make Art Board again, I used a great stencil called Postcard From Paris.

I secured it on top of my vintage paper with the magnets and then spread the texture paste over the stencil with the pallet knife.

Once all covered, I carefully removed the stencil and popped it into some warm soapy water.

I left the paper for about an hour to set

Step 6

Once the paste had set, I finished by tidying up the paper.

I tore the straight side of the paper with the Deckled Edge Ruler. (If needed I could do any of the sides again). Make sure the 'postcard print' is straight. Just love the texture of this.

Step 7

Next, I cut a corner for my card using a corner from Jamie Rodgers Wings Of Wonder Collection.

Bronze Mirri card is a perfect colour to go with the vintage feel of this card.

Let's start to assemble the card.....

Using wet glue, stick the embossed mat first and then angle it slightly.

On top of this (angled in the opposite direction), add the postcard with red liner tape (best tape for wrinkled card lol).

I glued the corner die cut to the top left of the card using wet glue.

Now I put my fancy decorating skills to the test and added all my flowers.

I found Silicone Glue to be the best for this (see photo for layout 📸).

Also I added the bow I made earlier to the top right on the end of the ribbon strip.

Keep the card flat until dry or things will start moving lol

Final Step

I added some Cosmic Shimmer Pearl Accents to the flower centres here in Purple / Pink / Violet colours.

My card needs a sentiment so I used one from the Creative Expressions Wordies Collection - All Occasions Set - "For Someone Special" in white.

I rubbed a little of the Rose Gold Metallic Gilding Polish around the edges and then stuck to a piece of black card, and cutting a border.

I stuck this to the bottom left of the card to complete my project.

Well I hope I have given you some inspiration and tips with this one....

Don't forget, we love to see what you are creating so share with us on our Facebook Group - Create With Craftmania And Jamie Rodgers.

Many thanks for being here and reading my blog.

Same time next week guys for another creation.
