Jamie Rodgers Crafts Festive Collection ~ Vintage Christmas Tag By Ian Rump-Smith | Craftmania Blog

Happy Wednesday All.....

After the lovely response last week on my Christmas Eve Plaque and Blog and as I am enjoying working with Jamie's new MDF Collection, I thought I'd bring you some more ideas to try....

Using the largest tag from the set above; I wanted to create a modern design with a vintage twist, as you will see from the colours I've chosen. However, this is completely open to using so many colour options.

Of course.... I will be using Jamie Rodgers Crafts fantastic NEW Festive Collection.

Let's get started......

Step 1

For my background, I took a sheet of A4 cream card (see my Shopping List below).

I used my Make Art Stay-tion to secure the Floating Bubbles Stencil on top of my card and then applied my colour. (See photo below 📸).

NOTE - I Secured the stencil using the magnets to the left first.

Using a blending brush, I added my colours of Distress Oxide Inks - Tea Dye and Brushed Corduroy. I gave some areas a nice shaded look to add character.

I then moved the stencil along my card, and did what was left of the space on the right using the same technique.

ree

I cut these out ready to cover my Tag.

Step 2

Taking the giant tag from Jamie's MDF set, I covered it with his glue.

ree

I then applied the 'cut out background' with the smallest piece to the straight edge.

TIP - I used a piece of kitchen towel to smooth the card over the tag to help it stick.

Don't worry about the seam of the join as this will be covered later.

ree

Next, I turned the tag over and carefully cut around it with a craft knife to remove the excess.

I then took a blending sponge to add a little Tea Dye Distress Oxide Ink around the edges.

To make it look a little special, I decided to add some lovely Gold Metallic Gilding Polish over the edges.

📝 NOTE - There are several shades of gold Metallic Gilding Polish, and you could also use Gilded Touch which would also give a lovely effect. I'll pop the options in the Shopping List below.

Step 3

I took the Straight Lines Die and cut it out of gold mirror card and cream card.

Using a 'wide' gold die cut and a thin cream die cut, I added these to the straight edge end of the tag.

Then using my craft knife, I carefully cut into the circle on the right of the tag and pushed the card through using a pencil.

I then tied some brown and gold ribbon through the hole.

Step 4

I made my flowers with White Vellum and the Classic Poinsettia Die.

I ran it though my machine three times to give me a nice selection of flowers to play with.

ree

My chosen colours for my flowers were Tea Dye and Vintage Photo in Distress Oxide Inks.

I used a blending brush to colour my vellum flower die cuts.

ree

Once done, I used a thin embossing tool and embossing mat to make marks in the centre of every petal. Once done, I glued my layers together to make my flowers using glue.

📝 NOTE - Be very careful with pressure as you could pierce the vellum.

Next I used the Festive Foliage Die Set to cut two holly leaves in gold mirror card and three sprigs in white. I then coloured the sprigs with Brushed Corduroy Oxide Ink.

ree

Step 5

When attaching my foliage to my tag, I wanted it to be super strong, so I used a glue gun.

TIP - When adding my flowers I made sure they covered the join of my background which I mentioned earlier :-)

Once completed, I added some gold gems to the flower centres.

Step 6

Create my sentiment for my tag....

I used the Merry Christmas Circle Die Set for this.

I cut the outer edge and centre circle in white card and the actual sentiment itself in gold mirror card.

I coloured the outer edge piece with Aged Mahogany Oxide Ink and the centre circle with Vintage Photo.

ree

Again, I used the Clear Drying Glue to piece all three elements together, and then my glue gun to add it to my tag.

That's it!

6 simple steps to make this lovely festive tag!

Thanks for checking out my blog guys, and hope I have filled you with inspiration and have your crafting juices flowing. Trust me when I say that these MDF tags are addictive :-)
