Vintage Deer - Canvas Collection By Jamie Rodgers

Vintage Deer - Canvas Collection By Jamie Rodgers | Craftmania

Hello all,

I apologise.. I really am in a Christmas mood at the moment.... however, the magic is that you can take the effects and layout from this project, and easily use it for many more occasions and themes!! So today I have an awful lot of pictures to hopefully help you...

Lets get started.....

▪️Stamp this beautiful stamp

I have chosen to stamp my image using

Tea Dye Oxide Ink By Ranger. I have really got into using this as a base ink recently (as you may have read in my recent posts).

▪️I am going to be heat embossing this image with Detail Gold Embossing Powder.

✅ TIP - Don't forget to give your card a wipe over with your Woodware Magic Anti-Static Pad before stamping.

▪️Once you have heated your image and left it too cool, cut it out with the Creative Expressions Large Octagon Canvas Die..

▪️Once it has been cut you can use a Bone Folder to burnish the score lines and build your canvas.

TIP - Mini pegs and Cosmic Shimmer Clear Glue is a game changer when it comes to constructing your canvas for ease and speed!

▪️Once built, I have started a little distressing...

First off... Tea Dye Oxide Ink around the edges..

Then a little Evergreen Bough across the foliage area...

Finished off with a hint of Festive Berries..

▪️Now at this stage, I wanted to try something slightly different... I have tried this on a couple of projects recently and been really happy with it, so thought a canvas could be an interesting experiment... ▪️Take some Cosmic Shimmer Clear Texture Paste (OHHH how I LOVE this stuff!) and stipple it all across the design.

If you have patience, you are possibly best off leaving it to dry naturally... however patience is one thing I certainly don't have :-) So, in I went with a heat tool to speed things up. What I hadn't thought of, was how the embossing powder may react... WELL... it bubbled! and sprung to life... and then it settled down as it cooled! Personally I rather liked it, as it left a little texture to the embossing that i didn't have before.. so this is something you could try out - or be more patient than me lol.

▪️Once the first coating was dry, I went back in with a little Tea Dye Distress Ink...

I found that this really highlighted the texture paste and gave me a very cool antique effect.

▪️Not one to leave things in peace for even a second... I decided more texture could possibly be achieved by a second coating of texture paste...

I once again heated this layer

▪️Then once again, I went in with a little Tea Dye Distress Ink to highlight the texture further..

I was rather happy with my finished canvas and felt it looked a little like an old painting.

It certainly took a bit of the shine away from the embossing powder and subdued it slightly, so I would be interested to try this again, but maybe heat emboss in black.. to see if that gives more drama to the finished canvas.

▪️I really wanted to add a little more to this panel, so I decided a Poinsettia may be a nice direction to head in..

I cut out several pieces from Foundations Coconut White Card

And then added a little Tea Dye Oxide Ink to the tips of all of the flowers and leaves..

▪️I then frosted the tips of the poinsettias with a little Festive Berries Oxide Ink..

▪️Then I added a touch of Evergreen Bough to the leaves

▪️Now time to build this in to our flower and at it to our canvas...

▪️Let's get this put onto a couple of layers...

▪️I have chosen Foundations Antique Gold card as my first layer which goes under the canvas, as I felt it was the best match in with my embossing powder.

I have taken a panel of gold card and scored it at every 0.5cm from one side to the other, in order to give a subtle background with a touch of elegance. Once you have scored the panel, cut it down to... 4" x 5.75" ▪️To go below this layer, I have cut a white panel of card - measuring 4.25"x 6" and have foam padded the gold layer onto this. TIP - When gluing your canvas onto your card, add a couple of layers of foam pads to the middle of the of the canvas. This reinforces it, and gives it support during posting (the side walls of the canvas are 7mm).

▪️On to the the layers on the card....

Card Blank - 8.5"x 8.5" Antique Gold - 8.25"x 8.25" Coconut White - Coloured with Festive Berries Oxide Ink - 8"x 8" Coconut White - Coloured with Evergreen Bough Oxide Ink - 7.75"x 7.75" Coconut White - Embossed with Sue Wilson's Falling Snow Embossing Folder - 7.5"x 7.5"

▪️For a finishing touch, I thought it might be nice to add a couple of corner dies.

▪️For a little added flourish, I have chosen a sentiment stamped with an Festive Berries Distress Oxide Ink Pad on to one of my own sentiment panels.

The sentiment stamp comes from this stamp set.

▪️Last but not least, I love to add on a few gems...

I hope you have enjoyed today's post, and have taken a few ideas away from this project! I would love to see your versions, so please share them on our Facebook Group...
